TOMATO Tomato
Widely grown vegetable cultivated for the juicy fruit. Warm season crop.
Sow: Spring, transplant.
Position: full sun.
Plant: 50-60cm apart, after frost.
Soil: well drained, moderately fertile, slightly alkaline. Add potash.
Maturity: 7-14 weeks.

DETERMINATE (BUSH) VARIETIES: Low, bushy plants, requiring little (short stake) or no support. Fruit tends to ripen all at once.
KY1
Heirloom. Early, low bushes bearing medium sized, rich red fruit. Highly recommended variety for pastes and sauces. Disease resistant.
ROMA
Reliable and popular variety. Highly productive, tall bushes bear large numbers of fleshy, elongated fruit. Rich flavour and few seeds make this a popular variety for sauces, pastes and drying. Disease resistant.

INDETERMINATE (STAKING) VARIETIES: Tall climbing vines, bearing throughout the growing season. Usually require support in the form of staking or trellising and some pruning.
AMISH PASTE
Heirloom. Dark red, oval-shaped fruit with thick flesh and few seeds. With a wonderful flavour, this variety is highly recommended for sauces, bottling and drying, as well as fresh in salads. An outstanding all-rounder. Vigorous, tall growing bushes bearing heavy crops.
BEEFSTEAK
Heirloom variety. Produces large, rounded, red fruit with solid, juicy flesh and a rich flavour. Ideal slicing type. Good disease resistance.
BLACK KRIM
Russian Heirloom. Slicing variety with large, purplish-red fruit with an outstanding rich, complex flavour. Reliable and disease resistant.
BLACK RUSSIAN
Russian Heirloom. Cool tolerant variety producing large, flattened, purplish-red fruit with richly flavoured, chocolate red flesh. Ideal for slicing, delicious semi-dried in oil.
BRANDYWINE
Amish Heirloom variety. Large, pinkish-red, solid fruit with few seeds. Prized for its outstanding flavour. Excellent slicing variety. Productive and hardy.
EARL'S FAUX BRANDYWINE
Prize-winning, pinkish-red, large slicing variety with a rich, complex flavour.
GROSSE LISSE
Deservedly popular home garden variety. Large red fruit with superb flavour are produced over a long period. Heavy cropping. Excellent slicing variety.
MONEYMAKER
Heirloom. Productive variety bearing rounded, medium-sized, bright red fruit with solid flesh and excellent flavour. Popular Australian market garden and hothouse variety, tolerating high humidity.
ROUGE DE MARMANDE
French Heirloom. Reliable and productive variety, with early fruit set, well suited to cooler conditions. Large, red, flattened, slightly ribbed fruit with a rich flavour. Excellent slicing type. Disease resistant.
SAN MARZANO
Italian Heirloom. Original Italian cooking variety. Produces clusters of pear-shaped, red fruit. Later maturing than Roma, but with a richer flavour. Dense flesh and highly recommended for sauces, pastes and drying. Stores well and resists splitting in rainy weather.
STUPICE
Czechoslovakian variety. Extremely early fruit set, ideal for cooler or short season areas. Bears richly flavoured, medium-sized, round red fruit. Highly recommended and reliable variety for Tasmania.
SWEETIE
Early and productive variety suited to cooler areas. Bears long trusses of sweetly flavoured, bright red cherry tomatoes.
TIGERELLA (STRIPEY)
Heirloom. Medium sized, round red fruit with orange stripes. Early fruit set and highly productive in Tasmania. Excellent flavour.
TOMMY TOE
Heirloom variety. Extremely productive, bearing numerous small to medium, cherry tomatoes over a long period. Excellent flavour and frequent winner of tomato taste tests. Disease resistant.
YELLOW PEAR
Heirloom variety. Tall, vigorous vines producing heavy clusters of small, bright yellow, pear-shaped fruit. Mild, acid free, sweet flavour. Excellent addition to salads or pickled.

CHERRY MIX
Wonderful mix of highly productive cherry types. Excellent in salads. Varieties include yellow, orange, red and black colours. Both bush and climbing types.

ZUCCHINI Zucchini
Productive and quick-growing vegetable, producing elongated, fine-fleshed fruit. Warm season crop.
Sow: Spring-Early Summer, transplant or direct.
Position: full sun.
Plant: 50-60cm apart, after frost.
Soil: well drained, rich and fertile.
Maturity: 6-8 weeks.
Harvest: regularly at around 15cm long.

ROMANESCO
Italian cultivar with elongated green-flecked fruit with distinctive, light green ridges. Outstanding, rich flavour. Large bush with big leaves.
